The underrated Edinburgh spot just named on Scotland's 'most picturesque' list

With it officially being springtime, many people will be dreaming of spending their free time in a picture-perfect sunny location as the days get longer and temperatures rise.

And though many will be seeking to head outside the city to while away an afternoon, one underrated spot in the capital has just been named one of the country's most picturesque locations.

In a new study, Stelrad has officially crowned where you’ll find the most picturesque destinations in the UK and Dean Village was not only named in the top 30 UK-wide but also came fourth in the Scottish list with the rankings based on Instagram hashtag data.

The historic site beat out the likes of Anstruther in Fife, Plockton in the Highlands and Balmaha near Loch Lomond and was only pipped by the likes of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull and Applecross on the NC500.

Found near Stockbridge and the winding, meandering Water of Leith, Dean Village looks like it may have sprung from the pages of a fairytale book, with beautiful buildings wherever you look.

The 19th-century red-sandstone building that is Well Court Hall is one of the village's most photographed, while the Victorian-era cemetery is another popular walking spot.

Two other notable landmarks, the Bridge and St Bernard's Well, were both designed by acclaimed Scottish engineer Thomas Telford.
