The UK's Third Dolby Cinema Is Now Open

If you’re a film fan living in the Manchester area of England, today is a good day. For if you head down to the city’s Odeon Trafford Centre cinema you’ll now find that you can enjoy many of the latest movie releases there in a newly opened Dolby Cinema screen.

The Trafford Centre Dolby Cinema installation is the third such screen to open in the UK, furthering the reach of Dolby’s premium movie-going experience.

If you’re not familiar with Dolby Cinema, it combines cutting edge laser projectors with state of the art Dolby Atmos audio systems to take the movie-going experience to a level far beyond anything you can get from a normal cinema auditorium.

The stunning Dolby Cinema experience is now available to cinemagoers in Manchester, England.

Brightness levels in a Dolby Cinema are more than double those associated with typical cinema projectors, for instance. Colors are delivered in the HDR Rec 2020 format, giving them (in conjunction with the high brightness) unprecedented vibrancy and saturations. Best of all, Dolby Cinema delivers an incredible million to one contrast ratio, meaning that dark scenes look properly black instead of grey, as well as containing levels of shadow detail you just can’t see in the much greyer pictures you get in standard cinemas (where contrast ratios of just 2,000:1 are common).

I watched new sci-fi movie Ad Astra at the new Odeon Trafford Centre Dolby Cinema just last night, and its space-based drama turned out to be the perfect demonstration of the impact Dolby Cinema’s contrast, color, brightness and huge, three-dimensional sound can have on your immersion in what you’re watching. What’s more, The Trafford Centre Dolby Cinema also goes the extra mile to make sure you can enjoy films in comfort, with all 160 of its seats being luxuriously finished motorized recliners.

Ad Astra opens more widely at UK Dolby Cinemas from September 20, with It Chapter 2 available now, and Downton Abbey arriving on September 13. Other Dolby Cinema highlights in the pipeline are The Joker (arriving October 4), Frozen 2 (November 22), and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (December 19).

The Manchester Dolby Cinema joins recently opened sites in London (Leicester Square) and Leeds (Thorpe Park), with a further site expected to open in Birmingham’s Broadway Plaza later this year. Dolby and Odeon have also promised that three more UK Dolby Cinemas will for the UK in the future, but locations for these have yet to be confirmed.
