The two major problems Arsenal and Man United face for ideal Arthur Melo transfer alternative

Arsenal face two major problems as they attempt to sign their Arthur Melo transfer alternative Ruben Neves.

The Gunners have been linked with the Portuguese midfielder for some time, with Premier League rivals Manchester United also emerging as potential contenders for his services.

Whilst Arsenal were eyeing Neves, it appeared that they were putting their efforts into signing an alternative throughout the January transfer window in the form of Juventus star Arthur Melo.

football.london previously reported that the Gunners were hopeful of sealing a deal for the Brazilian international before the conclusion of the winter window but a move has proven tricky to complete.

According to reports in Italy, Serie A giants Juventus want to either seal a permanent sale of the former Barcelona man or alternatively an 18-month loan, whilst the Gunners are thought to only be prioritising a six-month loan for Arthur.

With just days to go until deadline day, it remains to be seen whether an agreement will be reached between Arsenal and Juve.

Usefully, the north Londoners have alternatives to turn to should they elect to step away from negotiations with Juventus and Neves could well represent an ideal option.

Since arriving in England from Porto in 2017, the 24-year-old has sparkled at Molineux by first playing a pivotal role in Wolves’ promotion to the Premier League.

He has starred in the top-flight since then, with 128 appearances thus far in the competition, with his intelligence and vision drawing plenty of praise from supporters and pundits alike.

Having previously played in the Champions League, the Portuguese international possesses plenty of aspects that would make him an appealing option for Arsenal as they attempt to earn a place back at the top table of European football.

However, any deal for Neves is not expected to be cheap. According to The Sun, Wolves would only consider bids of between £40m-£45m for his services, with Manchester United previously hoping that an offer of £35m would be enough.

Away from their price-tag, Wolves are also confident of keeping the Portuguese until at least the summer and are hoping that a place in European competition would give them far more of a convincing argument for him to stay at Molineux.

A failed deal for Neves then would be a hugely damaging blow for Arsenal, with the club having seen a move for Dusan Vlahovic collapse, whilst their swoop for Arthur Melo remains up in the air.
