The two Irish hotels awarded five-star ratings by Forbes and what they cost per night

Two Irish hotels have been awarded five-star ratings by Forbes in 2023.

Both Adare Manor in Limerick and Ashford Castle in Galway received five-star ratings by the magazine, as part of their Forbes Travel Guide Star Award Winners.

The JP McManus-owned Adare Manor makes the five-star list for the first time, being described by Forbes as "a grand Neo-Gothic castle surrounded by 840 verdant acres in Ireland’s County Limerick."

Five star hotels, according to Forbes in its 65th annual Star Awards, are "outstanding, often iconic properties with virtually flawless service and amazing facilities."

Hotels are judged by highly trained inspectors, evaluating them based on 900 objective criteria over a minimum of a two night stay.

"Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest," Forbes explained.

A total of 558 properties across the entire globe were given five star ratings.

It will cost you €695 to book a midweek overnight stay in the cheapest room in Adare Manor next week and that doesn't include dinner. A similar room, also without dinner, will set you back €635 next Tuesday night at Ashford Castle. Weekends are typically more expensive.

The Forbes guide rated a total of 1,956 properties, with some receiving either a four-star or simply a recommendation.

Four-starred hotels are exceptional with high levels of service, while recommended hotels were described as "excellent properties" with consistently good service and facilities.

The Merrion Hotel in Dublin received a four-star rating from Forbes in the guide.

The Fitzwilliam Hotel in Dublin, the InterContinental in Dublin, The Shelbourne in Dublin, The K Club in Kildare and The Westbury all received a recommended ranking.
