The two Glasgow restaurants up for Scotland's 'best curry' title at national Spice Awards

Two Glasgow restaurants are in with a chance of winning Scotland's 'best curry' at a prestigious national food awards.

This week, the Spice Awards revealed their shortlist for 2022, encompassing various categories and eateries from across the country.

Ahead of the 'legendary gala final' taking place in Glasgow next month, the organisers say: "Spice Awards is unique in its approach by opening voting to those that engage most with the industry – the public themselves!

"Our independent voting campaign runs annually. We invite communities from across the country to support their favourite local and national businesses by voting for them via our online voting system.

"We pride ourselves in being the fairest contest in the country, handing power over to the people who really matter, the general public. The public will be invited to vote for their favourite venues/businesses across Scotland, businesses with the most votes in each category will make the final, it’s as simple as that.

"Not everyone can walk away a winner on the night but those that do will be the very best of the nation’s favourites!"

And the two Glasgow restaurants competing for the best curry prize aren't shy of accolades.

Chef Ajay Kumar and his team at the magnificent Swadish in Merchant City earlier this year celebrated being crowned Scotland's best Indian restaurant at the 2022 Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards and they'll be hoping to make it an incredible double next month.

Ajay is also up for the Best Chef - Indian cuisine title at this year's Spice Awards too. Swadish shared their delight at the nominations on social media earlier this week and said: "We're delighted to announce that at @spiceawards not one, but two categories (Best Chef - Indian Cuisine and Best Curry in Scotland) have chosen our favourite Chef Ajay Kumar as a finalist.

"He will compete against a number of other finalists from throughout Scotland in an effort to go beyond just retaining his title as the Scottish Curry Championship Winner 2019–2020."

The second of our local restaurants vying for the top curry prize is serial award-winner Mister Singh's India, on Elderslie Street, much-loved for its 'authentic Indian cuisine with a Scottish twist'.

Reacting to their nomination, the team took to social media to thank all the customers who voted for them and said: "Thank you to everyone who supported us in the Spice Awards 2022.

"We’ll keep you updated with the results in the very near future."

Several other Glasgow establishments will be hoping to take a title home at this year's Spice Awards. To find out more about the awards and the various categories, make sure to visit the Spice Awards website here.
