The two Chelsea buy-back clauses Graham Potter can activate if appointed amid Todd Boehly talks

Chelsea are searching for a new manager to replace Thomas Tuchel at the club after the German was sacked on Wednesday morning.

Brighton boss Graham Potter has been given permission to hold talks with the Blues' ownership over the vacant position at Stamford Bridge. Potter is in London for discussions as Chelsea look to have a new manager in place for the game against Fulham this weekend, football.london understands.

The west London outfit have only won three of their opening seven fixtures this season with Tuchel's sacking coming just a day after a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. Potter is now favourite to replace the German and could look to act on a couple of buy-back options available to the Blues in the January transfer window.

After a busy summer transfer window in which Chelsea outspent all of their Premier League rivals by bringing in eight new first-team players, Todd Boehly could look to back Potter in the January transfer window if the Brighton manager is appointed as Tuchel's successor. The January transfer window is notoriously more difficult to lure players away from their clubs meaning Potter may need to wait until the summer to reshape the squad to his liking, but the English manager has the luxury of activating a number of buy-back clauses available to him for players that have previously left Stamford Bridge.

With that in mind, football.london takes a look at the players Potter could look to re-sign for Chelsea if he becomes Chelsea's new manager.

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham left Chelsea to join Roma last summer for a fee of £34million with the Blues implementing a buy-back option of £67million that becomes active in 2023.

The 24-year-old has impressed during his time in Italy, scoring 27 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions in his debut season for the Serie A outfit. Abraham was instrumental in helping Jose Mourinho's side win the Europa Conference League last term, scoring nine goals in 13 games.

Abraham's clause is set to activate in the summer of 2023 which means Potter would have to wait until next season to bring the English forward back to Stamford Bridge, but his quality would be welcomed with open arms after Chelsea's struggles in attack so far this season.

Tino Livramento

Brighton were one of the clubs interested in signing Livramento from Chelsea before the young defender signed for Southampton, hinting that Potter is a fan of the 19-year-old.

The Blues were on the search for a new defender to add competition for Reece James and Potter could look to satisfy that need by activating Livramento's buy-back option next summer. Chelsea have the option to re-sign the talented defender for a fee of £38million in 2023 after letting him leave for an initial fee of just £5million.

Whilst this may represent bad business, Livramento's development has been massively boosted from his first team exposure at the Saints and £38million could end up being a bargain for the defender that has impressed under Ralph Hassenhuttl.
