As Friday night’s finale of The Traitors looms, the odds have drastically shifted for one player, making for a nail-biting conclusion to the intense competition.
Charlotte Berman, once the favourite to win, now finds herself at the top of the banishment list with odds of 1/2 after Frankie Rowan-Plowden was granted a special power to unveil the identity of who she thought was her closest ally.
During Thursday night’s episode presenter Claudia Winkleman informed the contestants that the person with the most gold at the end of the day’s challenges would become a “seer”.
Before the “seer” was revealed, Freddie Fraser was banished from the castle after the faithfuls, and traitor Charlotte, voted him out of the game. In the morning the faithfuls discovered at breakfast that the traitors had attempted to murder Leanne Quigley.
In the episode prior Charlotte had decided to recruit Freddie as a traitor and convinced him that they should murder Leanne despite knowing she had a shield protecting her. The only contestants who did not know that Leanne had a shield were Freddie and Alexander Dragonetti, meaning the faithfuls began to suspect the two.
In their penultimate mission the players were welcomed to the woods where they revisited some of the missions they had completed and were also faced with two new challenges. After the challenges Winkleman welcomed the contestants to the roundtable and asked them to each say “I am a faithful” before beginning discussions.
Freddie slipped up by telling his fellow competitors that banished traitor Minah Shannon had told him Leanne might have a shield “at the end of the night”, despite having left the game by that point.
Following his departure, Winkleman announced that Frankie had become the “seer” and took her to a chamber where she was tasked with choosing a player she would meet at a secret location who would reveal their identity to her only.
After it was revealed who she had chosen, Charlotte said to the cameras: “This is awful, terrifying, horrendous, this takes me into a space of playing against someone I really like.”
This year’s series features another twist as the finalists will no longer reveal whether they are a traitor or faithful after being voted out.
However, the “seer” revelation has thrown a wrench into Charlotte’s game plan and when the truth about her betrayal is about to come out, she’s now the frontrunner to be banished.
However, the Traitors’ savvy players know this may be a strategic move on Frankie’s part. With suspicion also on Frankie, who follows closely behind with odds of 2/1, Charlotte may redirect the heat and potentially shift focus away from herself.
Despite Charlotte’s setback, Jake Brown and Leanne are still strong contenders to make it to the end, with odds of 5/4 and 6/4 respectively while Alexander is 3/1.
A MyBettingSites.co.uk spokesperson said: “The Seer twist and Charlotte’s forced revelation of her true identity to Frankie have drastically shifted the odds. Charlotte, once the favorite to win, is now the frontrunner for banishment with odds of 1/2. However, she is likely to fight back by redirecting suspicion toward Frankie, making Frankie the second most likely to be banished with odds of 2/1.
“The focus will presumably shift to Charlotte and Frankie, while Leanne and Jake, still wary of Alexander, seem poised to make it to the end and win.”
As the finale approaches, it’s clear that the battle for the title of winner is still anyone's game.
The Traitors final airs at 8.30pm on Friday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
