British Bulldog, it turns out, is remembered as the favourite school playground game among adults on Tyneside, a new survey reveals.
M&S took a trip down memory lane, exploring the history of playground games and identifying which ones stir the fondest memories. It seems British Bulldog was the most popular game with Geordies, with over 20% of respondents choosing it as their childhood favourite.
If the children's computer games of today continue to evolve constantly, games played in the school playground are generally similar to those their parents played years ago. Unsurprisingly, hide and seek, which is still enjoyed by children today, took the top spot as the UK’s favourite school playground game.

- Tig/Tag/Tug (9%)
- Hopscotch (8%)

Continuing on the school nostalgia theme, check out our recent 12 classroom line-up photographs from 1900 to the 2000s here. From the strict overtones of Newcastle’s Coxlodge School in 1900, to the relaxed air of Our Lady and St Anne's RC Primary in 2012, we see Tyneside youngsters in an ever-changing world with unknown futures ahead of them. The clothing and hairstyles may have changed over time, but the facial expressions remain the same!
