A small restaurant in Caernarfon has been recognised by the Michelin Guide as one of its inspectors December picks, being added to the prestigious list ahead of the New Year.
Sheeps and Leeks is a 20-seat restaurant with just six tables which specialises in "well-balanced tasting menus served in a relaxed informal atmosphere" and prides itself on working with local artisan producers and offers a set tasting menu that uses the best of what's in season.
Speaking of this restaurant, the Michelin Guide wrote: "Named after two of the products for which Wales is best known, this unassuming former shop, tucked away in the town centre, features a ground floor kitchen and a basement restaurant with just six tables.

"Homegrown and local produce form the base of the set menu, where imaginative dishes show classic techniques and subtle global flavours."
Its inspector added of the quaint restaurant: "You’re greeted by the chefs in the ground floor kitchen as you enter, then taken down to the basement where there are only six tables. Staff bring in produce from their own gardens, and dishes on the set menu are interesting and imaginative."
It opened in 2019 and took over a former shop, as reported by North Wales Live. Now, the much-loved restaurant features a ground floor kitchen and boasts a basement restaurant which houses just six tables. Of receiving news of its feature in the guide, Sheeps and Leeks, which was also included in the Good Food Guide this year as well as winning recognition at the Welsh Restaurant Awards 2022, took to Instagram to share their gratitude.
Founder, Paul Hearn, wrote: "We are absolutely over the moon to have been included in The Michelin Guide this year. Well done, Team! Thank you very much, @michelinguide. We hope to see you again soon, here at Sheeps And Leeks."
Regulars to the restaurant soon flooded Sheeps and Leeks' post, offering their congratulations. User @madeup_meals wrote: "Absolutely well deserved. Looking forward to coming back on New Year’s Eve", alongside @babs_hall who said: "Outstanding place. Well deserved".
It wasn't the only Welsh restaurant to be included in the line up, either. The Parkgate Hotel's sorting room, too, was given such an accolade. Read more about that here.
Of it, the Michelin inspector said: "The Parkgate Hotel is an elegant new addition to the Welsh capital – and the Sorting Room is its smart brasserie, where service comes with a smile. Dishes like pan-roasted chicken breast or beef Wellington are carefully cooked and well-presented."
Sheeps and Leeks can be found at 12 East Gate Street Caernarfon Gwynedd LL55 1AG.
