The Thursday Murder Club movie will see Richard Osman's smash-hit book coming to the big screen in 2025, with filming now finished.
Above is the first official picture from the movie — the snap was released last year to mark when filming had started — where the cast joins Richard. We note that Helen Mirren is clutching the bestselling book in the picture.
In early 2020, Amblin revealed they had acquired the worldwide movie rights to the first Thursday Murder Club book, ahead of its publication. The book went on to become a best-seller and spawned a number of sequels that saw his septuagenarian super-sleuths tackling even more cases.
Richard Osman has started another book series, and Netflix is also planning to make that into a movie, so expect a We Solve Murders film too.

The Thursday Murder Club movie cast
Helen Mirren is Elizabeth Best in the movie, with Pierce Brosnan on hand as Ron Ritchie, Sir Ben Kingsley playing Ibrahim Arif and Celia Imrie as Joyce Meadowcroft.
Also in the cast are David Tennant, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Naomi Ackie and Jonathan Pryce. In his podcast, Richard Osman revealed that ex Bond villain Pryce plays Elizabeth's husband while Naomi Ackie plays cop Donna.
In a further casting announcement, Richard E. Grant (Withnail & I, Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Tom Ellis (Lucifer, Players), Geoff Bell (Kingsman: The Secret Service and Top Boy), Paul Freeman (Tokyo Trial, Raiders of the Lost Ark), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso, F1) and Ingrid Oliver (Last Christmas, Doctor Who) have all been added.
What's the plot for The Thursday Murder Club movie?
The first novel introduces us to Cooper's Chase, a peaceful retirement community where four unlikely friends (Ron, Elizabeth, Joyce, and Ibrahim) meet up once a week and discuss unsolved murders at the titular club.
When a shady property developer is found dead on their doorstep, the four friends find themselves caught in the middle of their first live case, and set about trying to catch the killer.
However, Richard Osman has said in his podcast we can expect some plot differences from the first book.
"The plot, as I understand it, for the Thursday Murder Club movie is based on the first book but it's not entirely the same, because you have to change things is the truth."

Who's written the script of the Thursday Murder Club movie?
You might think it's Richard Osman, but it's actually penned by Chris Columbus and Katy Brand (Good Luck To You Leo Grande). Osman said on his podcast that he didn’t actually want to write the script. "With Amblin [Steven Spielberg's production company] and Spielberg, when they came in, they said, 'It's definitely going to be in England, we'll give you that assurance, but someone else is going to write it'."
