The three Welsh locations listed as the most romantic places to visit in the UK

It's no secret that Wales has stunning vistas, idyllic shorelines and majestic rolling Welsh scenery for miles - so much so that it towns and villages have garnered titles such as 'most beautiful' and 'most peaceful'. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that three of our luscious country's towns and villages have been listed as the UK's most romantic locations by Country Living Magazine.

The Brecon Beacons, Aberaeron and Llanddwyn Island have all been named in the popular publication's 19-strong list which include places such as the Isle of Skye, Bath and Loch Lomond and it just goes to show that you can have a blissfully romantic break without needing to spend hundreds on a jet-setting holiday abroad.

Alongside a description of why these places are deemed a lover's paradise, the magazine highlights some beautiful places to stay.

Listed at number three on the list is the magical Island of Llanddwyn - rumoured to be the final resting place of the Welsh patron saint of love, St Dwynwen. Located just off the coast of Angelsey, this uninhabited island, which made number one in our own list of Wales' most romantic places, is part of the National Nature Reserve of Newborough Warren and is known as a 'tidal island'.

The magazine said: "This small tidal island off the west coast of Anglesey is the final resting place of the Welsh patron saint of lovers (St. Dwynwen) and so it only felt right to include it in our list of the most romantic places to stay in the UK.

"Unsurprisingly, you won’t be the first couple to make the trek here as the almost-island, with its rolling sand dunes, picturesque picnic spots and breathtaking rock formations, is the perfect backdrop to a romantic break. The mainland offers a wealth of romantic accommodation too, from chateaux to snug cottages."

It also recommended Llanddwyn Penthouse Holiday Apartment as the perfect place to stay when paying this beautiful Welsh island a visit.

With "dramatic landscapes and cosy, country inns", it's no wonder Wales' Brecon Beacons is also on the list. The publication described: "Wales as a country boasts ample opportunities for couples looking for romantic places to stay in the UK, but the Brecon Beacons in particular – with their dramatic landscapes and cosy, country inns – are a must visit.

"Take some time out together on the Four Falls hike which takes you on a trail between the park’s most scenic waterfalls, or wrap up warm and head out for a magical night of stargazing, a rare opportunity in the UK due to light pollution."

All good things come in three and the third Welsh spot on the list is an equally as impressive and romantic location as the previous two. Aberaeron in Ceredigion is a stunning fishing port adorned with colourful houses, indepedent shops and sandy beaches.

The town is also on the Wales Coast Path is a nice treat for adventure loving couples. Country Living wrote: "Wales’ Coastal Way spans 180 miles from Aberdaron to St Davids, running the entire length of Cardigan Bay (Ceredigion in Welsh) at the edge of the Irish Sea.

"Visitors can kayak beneath towering cliffs, surf at Whitesands Bay and stroll sections of the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast Path. And if you fancy a trip to Britain’s smallest city, St Davids is a 90-minute drive south-west of Aberaeron."

We couldn't agree more with these three romantic spots. If a romantic cottage is more up your street, we've rounded up a few of our faves here.
