Another one of tennis’s all-time greats is going to retire.
Roger Federer, winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles in an unbelievable career that will end at the age of 41, announced Thursday that he would retire from competitive tennis after the Laver Cup in London.
What a career it was. Despite the fact that Federer didn’t win as many Grand Slams as fellow legends Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, you could argue he was the best of his generation, and the fact that he thrived when there was so much incredible competition speaks volumes, too.
Tweets came in from all over the tennis world after the announcement:
So much love from the tennis world
Cheers Roger. Thanks for the shared memories my friend. It was an honor to share time/experiences on the most hallowed grounds in our sport. Don’t be a stranger ….

Roger, there was and never will be anyone like you. You crushed me on the court, but were so nice and genuine that I couldn’t hate you for it. You made the game better on and off the court and you will be missed. Good luck, you have earned all the success and joy in the world https://t.co/DwROmZXeJm
