The Release Date & Teaser Trailer For Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 Is Finally Here

It’s a great day to be a Happy Gilmore fan because Netflix just dropped the first teaser trailer for the long-awaited sequel to Adam Sandler‘s 1996 comedy.

Perhaps it wasn’t appropriate for my seven-year-old ass, but Happy Gilmore was my favourite movie as a kid. It kicked off my eternal love and admiration for the Sandman. Now, 28 years after the film’s release Happy — a potty-mouthed hockey player turned golf prodigy — is back on the scene and probably up to some mischief.

When I realised golf was actually boring as shit and nothing like the scenes shown in Happy Gilmore I was devastated. True story. (Image: Happy Gilmore)

Happy Gilmore 2 was first hinted at in 2022 when Christopher McDonald — who plays Happy’s nemesis Shooter McGavin —revealed in an interview that Sandler had shown him the script. Sandler officially announced that a sequel was in the works shortly after, hinting at a July 2025 release date.

In case you need a refresher, when we last saw Happy, he had just won the 1996 Tour Championship, beating his nemesis and absolute fuckwit Shooter McGavin for the coveted gold jacket.

Eating shits like McGavin for breakfast was an added bonus for Happy though, because the only reason he started playing golf (a sport that I personally think is a good walk ruined) is because he saw how big the prizes were and needed to pay off the IRS for his grandma.

If that sounds bonkers, you can check out the original trailer below.

But what is Happy up to now, almost 30 years later? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Is there a trailer for Happy Gilmore 2?

Yes! Well, kind of! We’ve got a teaser trailer that gives us a bit more info of what to expect in the upcoming sequel.

Before the good people at Netflix released a teaser trailer, they edged us all by releasing a 46-second teaser that had me on the edge of my golf-buggy seat.

What’s Happy Gilmore 2 about?

After years away from the professional golf circuit, Happy is bringing out his hockey jersey and his happy place to give it another crack. With the support of his now-wife Virginia Venet (Julie Bowen) he’s trying to harness the certain je se nais pas that he had the first time around.

But can he do it?

Along with Bown, the trailer also features a bunch of famous cameos, which brings me to my next heading…

Who is in Happy Gilmore 2?

Of course, in the lead role is Adam Sandler as angry golfer Happy Gilmore. Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen are reprising their roles as Shooter McGavin And Virginia Venit.

Ben Stiller is even coming back as Hal L. If you don’t remember Hal, is the mean orderly at the old folk’s home. A niche villain, if there ever was one.

Along with some returning characters, there are also a host of new ones and celeb cameos.

Taylor Swift‘s boyfriend (and football superstar, I guess) Travis Kelce makes a cameo as a waiter.

In the teaser trailer, we also Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio AKA Bad Bunny add another title to his ever-growing film resume.

Happy Gilmore 2 has been confirmed to feature Sandler’s long-time collaborators Benny Safdie and Nick Swardson, The Substance star Margaret Qualley, Shameless star Ethan Cutowsy, pro wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman and rapper Eminem.

Is there a release date for Happy Gilmore 2?

Happy Gilmore 2 will be heading straight to Netflix and be released on June 25, 2025. I’ll be counting down the days!!!
