Sheridan Smith plays the leading role in this new Channel 5 TV show.

Smith is best known for her roles in Cilla, Mrs Biggs, Gavin & Stacey, amongst other popular TV dramas.

Also starring in this new TV drama is former Emmerdale actor and 2019 strictly winner, Kevin Fletcher who plays Jack. Rising star Samuel Bottomley, who plays Kyle, has previously acted in Ackley Bridge.

Also starring in The Teacher is Cecilia Noble (Small Axe) as Pauline and Sharon Rooney (My Mad Fat Diary) as Nina, all teaching colleagues of Jenna.

Tillie Amartey and Aaronveer Dhillon play Kyle's school friends Izzy and Adnan, while comedian Anil Desai (The Imitation Game) plays headteacher Ken Mills.

David Fleeshman (It’s a Sin) will play Jenna’s father, and Ian Puleston-Davies (Tin Star, Marcella, Coronation Street) also features.

What is The Teacher release date?

Episode one of The Teacher will air on Monday, January 31 at 9pm on Channel 5 and will continue at this same time weekly for three weeks thereafter.

The trailer teases a drama-filled series as we see at the start of the trailer how popular of a teacher Jenna is.

However, as the trailer progresses, we can see how this view slowly changes.

We see Garvey trying to fight for her innocence as she says ‘’what if I didn’t do it?’’, as she has no recollection of this.

We also see snap scenes of her car bonnet vandalised with the word ‘’paedo’’ marked on it. Slowly we see students turn against her as the rumour spreads like wildfire of the alleged incident that happened on her night out of celebration.
