Staff at a London bakery will no longer be seeing Kate Middleton pop in for a treat after picking up her son George from school. The Duchess of Cambridge had been a customer at Gail's Bakery in south west London.
Kate and her family are moving to Windsor where the Cambridge children will start a new school. It means there will be much less chance of Kate popping into the bakery near Battersea Square after the school day at Thomas's Battersea ends.
MyLondon visited the bakery to see if they had ever seen the Duchess of Cambridge during or after the school run. And staff said they had seen Kate, and revealed her exact order.
Dominika Lipiec, 44, a customer assistant at Gail's Bakery in Battersea said: "One time, I remember a parent from the school came in and they were just so excited that their child was in the same class as George.
"We have seen Kate here, twice at least. They've come here after picking up George from school. I think one time Charlotte was with her."
When asked what Kate ordered, Gail's bakery staff said it was the Chocolate Brownie Finger. The spongy treat costs £2.40 and staff said it was a firm favourite amongst the many parents who flood in after school pick-up time.
The first Gail's Bakery opened in London’s Hampstead High Street in 2005. Today, the chain has 79 bakeries in neighbourhoods in and around London, Oxford and Brighton. They bake fresh, handmade bread, pastries and cakes every day. The Battersea Square branch has three stars out of five on TripAdvisor. Customers praise the "magnificent" staff were brand the prices "extortionate". One review reads: "Daylight robbery, £3 for a spoonful of avocado."
Prince George joined the exclusive London school a couple of minutes away from Gail's in 2017 and Princess Charlotte started there in 2019. Prince Louis was never a student at the school as he has just completed his final year at Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington. However, the three young royals are unlikely to be seen at Gail's Battersea again, as they will be enrolled at Lambrook School which is near to the family's new four-bedroom home, Adelaide Cottage.
Fees for the top school range between £4,000 to £7,000 per term depending on the age of the child. William will ferry his and Kate’s three children to the school each morning when they all start at the private school in Berkshire in just a few weeks' time, according to The Sun.
A statement from Kensington Palace said: "Their Royal Highnesses are hugely grateful to Thomas’s Battersea where George and Charlotte have had a happy start to their education since 2017 and 2019 respectively and are pleased to have found a school for all three of their children that shares a similar ethos and values to Thomas’s."
Jonathan Perry, headmaster at Lambrook School, said: "We are delighted that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will be joining us this coming September and very much look forward to welcoming the family, as well as all of our new pupils, to our school community."
