The Sydney Swans want Buddy Franklin's 1,000th goal ball returned as video of crowd catch circulates on social media

The Sydney Swans have appealed to a fan who caught the ball Buddy Franklin used to kick his 1,000th goal to return it.

The Sydney Swans are looking for the footy fan who put his body on the line to snag the ball Lance Franklin used to kick his 1,000th AFL goal.

Footage posted to social media shows a fan falling over a row of seating as he clutches the ball shortly after it sailed through the posts.

With a Swans scarf around his neck, the fan appears to be in disbelief as he stands up with the footy in his hands.

"Let's get out of here."

It didn't take long for the Sydney Swans to find video of the catch circulating on social media.

Amid speculation on the ball's value as a collectors item, the club has offered to let the fan present it to Franklin himself.

"To the person who caught the ball, we would love to get it back for Buddy!" the team said in a tweet.

"We’re inviting you to training to meet Lance and present the ball to him. Get in our DMs pls!!"
