A comprehensive school in Swansea has been rated just two for food hygiene. It was given the third lowest score in the Food Standards Agency ratings which indicates that improvement is necessary.
A report states the areas of improvement needed were cleanliness and the condition of facilities and building, including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
It classified the hygienic handling of food at Bishop Gore Comprehensive, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage at the school as 'very good', and added that its system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served was safe to eat, evidence that staff knew about food safety, and the food safety officer had confidence that standards would be maintained in future was 'generally satisfactory'.
Elsewhere in Swansea, all other comprehensive schools received either five or four ratings, with seven receiving the highest possible score. Get Swansea stories straight to your inbox with our newsletter.

Addressing the Bishop Gore rating, a spokesman for Swansea Council said: "The hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage was found to be very good at the time of the last inspection in July. Unfortunately minor structural issues with the kitchen were identified along with issues with the freezers and the outside food waste storage area.
"The council has addressed all of the matters identified and our school meal service is making regular visits to ensure high standards are maintained. We are confident that when the kitchen is reassessed the rating will improve. Parents and pupils can be reassured that the food at Bishop Gore is prepared and served to a high standard."
