Here's how the Wales players rated during the 2-1 win over Austria.
Wayne Hennessey 7
Wasn't really ever truly tested, but conducted himself with minimal fuss. Some of his decision-making was perhaps a little suspect at times. Even so, it would be harsh to not be anything but positive about the goalkeeper's 99th outing. A largely calming presence during an nervous last 10 minutes or so. Assured enough.
Ethan Ampadu 7
So calm in possession. Was caught out a couple of times early on, but grew into the game nicely, making a couple of really strong defensive contributions. Was kept on his toes by Arnautovic and Sabitzer during the second half, but did reasonably well to stand up to the challenge. Solid.

Joe Rodon 8
Took an early clattering from Arnautovic early on and was, all told, bulled by the former Stoke man on a couple of occasions. Nevertheless, he grew into the game as Austria ramped up the pressure in the second half. Indeed, produced a superb defensive performance in the end. No one in a red jersey made more tackles, and no one was as dominant in the air. also dominant in the air.
Ben Davies 8
As solid as a tank, as composed and agile as a ballroom dancer. Dominant in the air all night. His breath was never too far from the neck of any Austrian that dared to pick up the ball in the box. A real leader in the back three, he also earned an unlikely assist for the second. Would have been star man were it not for brilliance of Bale, to be honest.
Connor Roberts 7
Simply everywhere in the first half as Wales pressed. So much energy down the right. Made some marvellous balls over the top for Bale and co too. Typically bruising in defence. Exactly what you'd expect from Connor Roberts.
Joe Allen 8
Kept the midfield ticking over nicely for much of the evening. Got his foot in brilliantly to break up Austria's attacking attempts, and also played a part in helping his side win the battle in midfield. Wee Joe still has plenty in the tank.
Aaron Ramsey 7
Would have probably scored shortly after Bale's opener were it not for a brilliant save. Produced some masterful passes at times, and he wasn't far from any of his team's best moves. Perhaps slightly quiet, but comfortably assured.
Harry Wilson 7
Was a pest for the Austrian midfield all evening, with his pace on the counter-attack the driving force behind much of his side's efforts in the final third, making several key passes. Won the foul for Bale's opener.
Neco Williams 8
Typically brilliant going forward. Worked himself into a couple of really promising moments with some classy touches. His composure on the ball goes well beyond his years or experience. Made a total of five brilliant runs. Already a massive, massive player for his country.

Daniel James 7
Made some really, really good runs throughout the game, but was guilty of spurning two very good opportunities midway inside the second half. Just couldn't find that finishing touch and, on another night, it could have proved costly. Still, the Leeds man played a decent role alongside Bale up front.
Gareth Bale 9 - STAR MAN
Believe or not, he actually looked a little sloppy early on. A couple of poor touches and sloppy passes must have done little to calm the nerves in the home crowd. But my word. Never, ever, underestimate Gareth Bale. A moment of utter magic got Wales up and running. A moment of predatory instinct helped seal the deal. Not his best ever performance, but his class is obvious. Viva Parasite.
