The stunning sunflower fields at Rhossili Bay are now open for visitors

Every year, thousands of Swansea and Gower residents and visitors to the region flock to Rhossili Bay to take a picture-perfect photo in the beautiful sunflower fields - and this year will be no exception. Rhossili Sunflowers, a sunflower farm managed by Rob Morgan of Gower Fresh Christmas Trees, opens for the summer season today (Saturday, July 16) - and people are in for a treat.

This year, there are two fields to explore: one "pick your own" field with thousands of sunflowers to choose from to take home (priced at just £1.50 each), and another field with a gorgeous "sunflower trail" to explore and "seashore safari" with wooden sculptures to find. There's also a cafe on site and various photo opportunities to enjoy, including a gorgeous sunflower archway, a wooden swing - and even an arch for your dogs!

A few years back, the only sunflower fields at Rhossili Bay were located on land owned and managed by the National Trust. They were a very popular attraction every year, but in 2020 the Trust was unable to plant the fields due to its staff being furloughed during the pandemic. Instead, local farmer Rob stepped in and bought two fields next to the National Trust site and planted thousands of sunflowers for people of all ages to enjoy that summer.

The following year, in 2021, Rob planted a gorgeous sunflower field at Rhossili Bay and another at Three Crosses, whilst this year there's two sunflower fields at Rhossili and a gorgeous lavender field at Three Crosses. Rob has confirmed the fields will open at 10am on Saturday, July 16 and the sunflowers are likely to last "for a good month" with their peak in a fortnight or so.

In a post on Facebook on Thursday, Rob and his team said: "Great news: [Rhossili Sunflowers] opening this Saturday, July 16 10am to 7pm. SA3 1 PR. Flowers just starting so don't rush down all at once, but lots are flowering!

"£3 per person pay on gate. Please bring cash as card machines temperamental at Rhossili. [There is a] Sunflower heart arch, Sunflower swing, Dog arch (from Tuesday), pick your own flowers bunches: £5 a bunch, pick your own sunflowers: £1.50 a stem in the top field. Top field is the pick your own, no pick your own at bottom field.

"Bottom field is the seashore safari, free sunflower seeds if you find all the wooden sea sculptures! Cafe onsite (no toilets), toilets in National Trust car park.

"Parking at National Trust car park £3 for two hours, all goes to National Trust. Follow coastal path to the field, all signposted or ask National Trust staff. [The sunflowers] will flower for a good month, peak in two weeks or so.

"Drive carefully on Gower, thanks and take rubbish home, thanks. Look forward to seeing you all."

A follow-up social media post on Friday added: "Lots of messages about the Lavender fields this weekend. Open Saturday and Sunday (July 26 and 17). £2 entry, card or cash is fine.

"Tractor rides to field also [available]. Lavender bunches available £3 or £5. Two arches: a dog arch and one for you guys [customers]. Gower Lavender products also on-sale.
