The stunning sandy beach under an hour from Edinburgh named one of UK's top hidden gems

With the weather heating up and the sun beginning to shine, we can all begin to feel a desire not to waste the days and when it comes to inspiration for days out it pays to seek out those places that are a little less known.

When it comes to entertaining the family over the holidays we all want fun places to go.

Recent data for UK holidaymakers has revealed that Scotland is this summer’s must-visit destination, with beaches, countryside and historical landmarks just some of the attractions the country has to offer travellers.

To help with ideas of the best places to check out this summer, holiday specialists Verdant Leisure asked travel expert Francesca Houldsworth to pick out some of her hidden gems and one stunning sandy beach not far from the capital was one of her top picks.

The stunning Pease Bay lies close to the picturesque town of Dunbar and is just under an hour's drive from the capital.

Nestled in a valley with its own golden beach, Pease Bay is surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery and looks out onto the North Sea.

A popular destination for family, the beach's shape makes it an ideal location for surfing.

Speaking about Pease Bay in Dunbar, Francesca said: “Only a stone's throw away from Edinburgh, Pease Bay is a stretch of sandy beach and sandstone cliffs in the Scottish Borders region.

"It’s a prime surfing location as well as a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve, so offers plenty of exploring for budding surfers, a family day out or a relaxed day on the sand.”

The location of the beachfront holiday park nearby meaning those looking to stay longer than an afternoon can, while the beach lies within easy access to the closeby village of Cockburnspath as well as the pretty towns of Dunbar and St Abbs meaning there are plenty of places to explore and refuel.
