It’s that time of year when the nights begin to draw in and evenings start to become darker earlier. Luckily there are plenty of light displays taking place which bring some brightness and cheer to gloomy autumn evenings.
If you’re venturing to the Peak District this October half term then there’s one display at Cromford Mills which is worth checking out. Located near the town of Matlock, Cromford Mills is a Grade I listed mill complex full of industrial history.
Around an hour and 45 minutes drive from Greater Manchester, the area is full of stunning walks and nature trails to enjoy, as well as impressive mill buildings. During the day you can take a tour of the mill buildings and learn about Sir Richard Arkwright, who built the mill in 1771. Or you can explore the surrounding countryside.

But for two nights this week only the mills will be illuminated with colourful light projections, telling the story of Derbyshire's history. Shine A Light will take place on October 27 and 28 and it will feature mesmerising audio-visual displays.
This year the event promises even more attractions, including a UV glow room, full of interactive experiences for all ages. There will also be live music and food and drinks vans.
Tickets cost £6 for children and £9 for adults, with entry slots available from 6.30pm until 9pm. Well-behaved dogs are allowed but there will be loud music, bright lights and crowds.
