Recently named one of the UK’s most beautiful island escapes by a luxury travel magazine, Arran is easily accessible from Glasgow by both car and train and is well worth travelling to this summer.
Not only is it a haven for breathtaking beaches and sublime food and drink, there is also the imposing Goatfell that is ideal for a wee hike in the sun.
With plenty to see and do, and costing less than £20 for a return trip from Glasgow Central to the island's capital, Brodick, by train and ferry, it won't break the bank.
And one major reason to visit is that it's also where you'll find one of Scotland's newest and most exciting distilleries. We previously told you how sister site Lochranza is a favourite of Star Wars star Ewan McGregor, well Lagg on the other side of the island is another spot you won't regret checking out.

First opened in 2019, the exciting distillery has just released its inaugural single malt, the Kilmory Edition, meaning you can finally try the stunning smokey whisky produced there while checking out the views from their epic visitor centre, which is also home to a welcoming café and modern shop space.
Inside the Visitor Centre you'll find a range of tours and tastings (starting at £8 per person) which reveals the story of distilling on the island and offers a glimpse at how they have a focus here on producing a peated Single Malt reminiscent of the style of whisky originally produced in illicit stills on the island, long before Lagg opened its doors in 2019.
Open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 am to 5.30 pm, the café serves coffee and cakes from 10 am until 4.30 pm while hot food is served from 12 pm to 4 pm.
In the whisky bar, you can also enjoy a Whisky & Chocolate Pairing or even a whisky flight from the range of drams available.
The distillery also offers stunning views out from their terrace towards Campbeltown, Sando Island and even Ireland in the distance.
How to get there
You can drive to Ardrossan, or get a train from Glasgow Central or Paisley Gilmour Street train station, which will take you to the ferry terminal.
From there you can get a ferry to Brodick (find out more on the Calmac website ) where buses are available to take you to Lagg or you can drive in around half an hour by car.
