With travel abroad still feeling a bit risky for some this summer, the staycation boom in the UK is still ongoing as people seek to rediscover what's on offer at home.
The south of Scotland is a bit of an undiscovered gem when it comes to holidaying here and it's finally being given the chance to shine and show why some people have been dubbing it the "new Cornwall".
With golden sands, plenty of opportunity for surfing and plenty of opportunities to enjoy some incredible food and drink, here are just three of the beaches that will rival anything you'll find on the Highlands and islands or that famous southwestern corner of England.
Coldingham Bay, Berwickshire Coast
The most popular beach in the Scottish Borders and for good reason.
Known for its clean sands, historic beach huts and Homel Knoll, a steep, grassy hillock with a rewarding view at the top.
Coldingham Bay is an ideal place to catch a beautiful sunrise, take a long walk on the golden sands or explore the myriad marine life you'll find in its many rockpools.
The beach is also a fun place to try wild swimming or catch the waves with some surfing.
Don't worry if you're new to the sport, St Vedas Suf School and Shop on the beachfront offers not only lessons but the kit you'll need too.
Southerness beach, Dumfries & Galloway
This wide, sandy beach on the Solway Coast is another stunning site that is perfect for a long dog walk, spotting seals porpoises and even dolphins, as well as exploring Scotland’s second oldest lighthouse.
This vast expanse of sand stretches across either side of Southerness point, and boasts stunning views over the Solway Firth.
If you are a keen golfer you won’t want to miss out on Southerness Golf Course, one of Scotland’s finest golf courses. Designed by MacKenzie Ross and built in 1947 enjoy a true championship links course amidst the natural beauty and character of this tract of wild land by the sea.
Eyemouth beach, Berwickshire Coast
Venturing out from the historic harbour town of Eyemouth you'll find another of this region's epic beaches.
Eyemouth Beach is the ideal destination to take the kids this summer with wildlife lovers able to spot grey seals and explore the numerous rockpools hunting for crabs and starfish.
After a walk on the beach, stop at Giacopazzis for awarding winning fish and chips and luxury ice cream.
Walk along the smuggler's trail from Eyemouth to St Abbs Head to discover hidden coves and incredible coastal views.
