River City is a much-loved soap all over Scotland, by viewers and actors/actresses alike, most of which credit their appearances on the show as a launching pad for their careers.
Some have stayed loyal to the soap, with mainstays Frank Gallagher (Lenny Murdoch), Stephen Purdon (Shellsuit Bob), and Sally Howitt (Scarlett O-Hara) still key to the Shieldinch crowd.

Gordon Gilbert Kennedy - Mac Macdonald
64-year-old Gordon played a school teacher disgraced after fathering a child with a student.
Known as Mac, the teacher was forced to leave Shieldinch after the arrival of his young lover Julie, who had birthed a son at 16 to him.
Afterwards, Gordon went on to star in television drama Red Cap, playing Bruce Hornsby.
He then progressed to a couple of episodes of Where the Heart Is before going on to star in Robin Hood.
Alongside his acting career, Kennedy is a rugby coach with London Wasps and has appeared many times on Test Match Sofa.
Lorraine McIntosh - Alice Henderson
Deacon Blue singer Lorraine McIntosh hit the streets of Shieldinch after roles in Taggart, My Name is Joe, and Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself.
Former wife of Mac [Gordon Kennedy], Alice was sent to jail after she tried to frame the schoolteacher for child pornography.
Alice had to leave Shieldinch after the identity of her real father was revealed, but in reality, Lorraine left to concentrate on her theatre work in October 2021.
At the moment, however, her immediate future lies with music, as she joins husband Ricky Ross on a new Deacon Blue tour.
