The two Welsh beaches among the top 10 most dog-friendly in the UK

Two beaches in Wales have been named among the most dog-friendly in the UK.

A report analysing Google ratings and reviews to find the highest rated dog-friendly beaches has produced a top 10.

Ahead of National Dog Day on August 26, Three Cliffs Bay on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula came in at number four.

The Welsh beach was the first pure sand beach on the list, with a shoreline of sand dunes in front of looming limestone cliffs which jut into the bay, giving it its name.

Situated on the Gower Coast Path, visitors can wander along the beach or around headlands with dogs which are allowed all year round.

The area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is one of the most photographed beaches, and Katherine Jenkins even called it her “favourite view”.

The other Welsh beach which made the top 10 most dog-friendly beaches in the list compiled by Showers To You was Marloes Sands in Pembrokeshire, which came in at number seven.

Marloes Sands is a remote one and a half kilometre long sand beach near Marloes village.

Dogs are allowed on the beach which is easily accessible about a half mile walk from a National Trust car park.

Undercutting St Bride’s Bay, Marloes Peninsula is one of the best places to spot dolphins, seals, rare birds like puffins and peregrines, and even the odd whale.

As you gaze out you might spot Stockholm and Skomer Island, which are home to incredible wildlife.

It is off the beaten track and has a collection of rock pools for dogs to paddle safely.

Overall, Pembrokeshire was deemed the county with the second most dog-friendly beaches, losing the top spot to Devon.

It is no wonder with its three borders of coastline and plethora of beaches.
