The Social Media column: Former rugby star Richard Keatley forced to pull out of Battle Of The Stars

Richard Keatley has been forced to pull out of Saturday night's Battle Of The Stars after suffering a nasty injury.

The former rugby player hurt himself during his last rehearsal forcing him to miss the Strictly Come Dancing-style event in the Clayton Ballsbridge.

His wife Lisa Cannon told the Social Media: “He is absolutely devastated." She explained: “His leg is gone because of a muscle tear.

“It only happened during the last practice on Sunday and the doctors have told him he can’t dance again. He can’t even walk properly.”

Keatley played rugby union for his home country of Wales as well rugby league for Wakefield and Connacht before retiring because of injury.

Now, it seems his previous strains have caught up with him. Lisa said: “He is yelping with the pain".

Richard began training for the annual event in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland in February and sadly all of his hard work in the studio has gone to waste.

Lisa said: “He has been with the rest of the troupe for the last two months.”

All is not lost for the couple , right, though as they will be there on the night to support a host of celebrities including presenter Sybil Mulcahy, model Kerri Nicole Blanc and former Mayo footballer Dermot Flanagan.

Lisa said: “The good news is that I am judging it and we will be all there cheering everybody on.

“I am really looking forward to it because I know a lot of the dancers, so it is going to be a great night.”

Eoghan McDermott has been forced to pull out of hosting Battle Of The Stars but funnyman Baz Ashmawy will step in to MC the glamourous event tonight.

The presenter had to step aside due to last-minute commitments.

The 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy star will be on hand to chat to Miss Ireland Aoife O’Sullivan, former rugby player Richard Keatley, Fair City actor Ryan Andrews and broadcaster Jenny Buckley after they take to the floor.

Julian Benson, First Dates Ireland maître d’ Mateo Saina and Elaine Crowley will be judging the event in Dublin.

Presenter Karen Koster reveals why she has earned her Ireland AM gig  

Karen Koster said it would be a nightmare if she slept in for her new job.

After taking over from Ciara Doherty on Ireland AM, she said she is still adjusting to the 4.30am starts.

The 38-year-old told the RTE guide: “To keep getting up at half-four and make it to that finish line without sleeping it out is my goal.

“I’ve never slept it out in my entire life, so I’m just hoping that I have good form in that area.

“Now that I’ve said that, it will probably all go wrong tomorrow morning.”

Viewers slam Ireland's Got Talent after 39 member group BSD crowned winners  

DS were not the only stars at the Ireland’s Got Talent final last Sunday.

Presenter Lucy Kennedy was a proud mother as her son Jack looked on from the audience and it was also a family affair for judge Denise Van Outen as she was joined backstage by her mum Cathy.

RTE 2fm hosts Stephen Byrne, Tara Stewart and Eoghan McDermott were also in the studio to cheer on the finalists.

Pop singer turned tour manager Liam McKenna and Weekend AM reporter Paul Ryder were also spotted in the green room of the Virgin Media Television Show at the weekend.

After the winners were announced, the cast and crew were bussed to city hotspot The Grayson where they danced the night away.

Filans hit town as support acts

 

Shane Filan and wife Gillian took some time out from his hectic Westlife promo schedule to support one of their locals at Ireland’s Got Talent.

The pair enjoyed a date night at the semi-finals in the Helix last Saturday to support their fellow county native Fionn McMorrow.

Gillian said: “Up from sligo for the weekend to support @fionnmcmorrowofficial on Ireland’s got talent.

“The future is bright for this little superstar."
