The Sixers gave Joel Embiid the silent treatment before going wild over his 70-point performance

Joel Embiid is making his case for back-to-back NBA MVP seasons loud and clear.

Embiid posted a career-high 70 points in the Philadelphia 76ers’ Monday night victory against the San Antonio Spurs, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record in the process for most points in a game in franchise history. Despite head coach Gregg Popovich’s promises, Embiid blazed through the Spurs’ like a hot knife through butter, made even sweeter by the fact that Monday’s game came on the 18th anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game in 2006.

MORE: NBA fans were in awe after Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns scored all the points 18 years after Kobe dropped 81.

And to celebrate his incredible achievement, Embiid’s Sixers teammates gave him the cold shoulder before absolutely going bonkers in the postgame locker room.

Talk about an A+ troll job from the Sixers before giving Embiid his rightful flowers — or in this case, a celebratory water bath — for this historic performance.
