Cardiff have announced six players will leave the Arms Park this summer - with three Wales internationals hanging up their boots at the end of the season.
Utility back Hallam Amos' impending retirement had already been confirmed, with a recent injury against Munster meaning he has played his final match, but Cardiff confirmed that fellow Welsh internationals Rhys Gill and Scott Andrews would also be finishing their playing careers. Both props, the pair won 21 Test caps between them.
In addition to Amos, Gill and Andrews, experienced fly-half Jason Tovey will also hang up his boots, while back-row Alun Lawrence and fly-half Luke Scully will leave the club. They join Lewis Jones, Ben Murphy, Iestyn Harris and Sam Moore in departing, with that quartet having all left the Arms Park earlier in the year.
Speaking about the departures, Cardiff director of rugby Dai Young said: “I would like to thank all of the players for everything they have given in a Cardiff jersey over the years. They can all be proud of what they have achieved in the game and I am sure they have many fond memories from their time at the Arms Park.
“Some like Hallam Amos, Rhys Gill, Scott Andrews and Jason Tovey are retiring after long careers in the professional game and we wish them all the very best for their future in new careers. I am sure they have made many lifelong friends and will remain familiar faces around the place, where there will always be a warm welcome.
“For those moving on to new clubs, I would like to extend my sincere thanks and best wishes for the remainder of their playing careers. They all have plenty to offer, and while they will not remain in Cardiff colours, we hope to see them on the pitch and fulfilling their potential in years to come.”
Seven cap loosehead Gill will retire after a 17-year career that saw him graduate through the club's academy system. He spent four seasons at the Arms Park before switching to Saracens in 2009 where he won the English Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup. He returned to Caridff in 2016, but injuries have limited him to just one appearance this season.
As for Andrews, the 14 cap tighthead will retire after 13 seasons with Cardiff to concentrate on coaching with a position in the club’s pathway and academy. Tovey, the Dragons' all-time top point-scorer, has enjoyed two stints at the Arms Park and will focus on his coaching work with Ynysddu RFC when he retires.
As for Lawrence and Scully, the former joined Jersey Reds on loan earlier this season and has now agreed an extension with the English Championship club. As for the latter, it is unclear where Scully will end up - having recently returned to action for Cardiff RFC after an ACL injury.
