Welcome to rarefied air, Aaron Judge.
With one mighty swing of the bat, the New York Yankees slugger entered the 60 home run club in a single season, joining just nine other years of 60-plus. Fun fact, as you’ll see from this list below: Just six actual players have accomplished that.
While he probably isn’t heading into the 70s this season — hey, you never know! — it’s still an all-time unbelievable season that’s not done yet.
With that in mind, we’ve put together the list of the most home runs in a season, and we’ll update it as Judge continues to hit ’em deep:
1
Barry Bonds: 73

He did it in 2001.
2
Mark McGwire: 70

That was back in 1998.
3
Sammy Sosa: 66

Also in 1998.
4
Mark McGwire: 65

5
Sammy Sosa: 64

That was in 2001.
6
Sammy Sosa: 63

Accomplished back in 1999.
7
Roger Maris, 61

As you may know, it happened in 1961.
8
Aaron Judge: 60 (and counting)
9
Babe Ruth: 60

Back in 1927!
10
Babe Ruth and Giancarlo Stanton (tied): 59

Ruth did it in 1921 and Stanton in 2017 as a Marlin.
