The silly Deion Sanders and Shedeur touchdown song ‘controversy,’ explained

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Have you seen some stuff about Colorado coach Deion Sanders and how his son needs a specific song after touchdowns? And you’re very confused about that whole thing? Don’t worry. We’re here to help.

Deion Sanders can’t stop making headlines for all kinds of reasons, but this one is kind of silly.

There’s some reporting floating around about a request from the elder Sanders about his son, Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders and the song he wants to hear after touchdowns.

Let’s clear it all up for you:

What’s this now about Deion Sanders and Shedeur and a touchdown song?

Let’s start with a report from DenverSports.com:

A year later and the fight song doesn’t even play in the stadium after the quarterback throws a touchdown. Deion Sanders told the band they couldn’t play if his son Shedeur Sanders scores a touchdown so that the loudspeaker can play a recording of his son’s song “Perfect Timing.”

What is Perfect Timing?

Here you go:

What did Colorado have to say about this?

A statement from a Colorado spokesperson said that after a Sanders touchdown, the band “will wait a moment for a small snippet of Shedeur’s song to play before immediately kicking into ‘Glory, Glory, Colorado.”

Oh, OK.

Yeah. The university also said the band waits for another song to play before another fight song, but we don’t know if the Shedeur song plays because Deion asked for it or not.
