The shirt numbers Djed Spence could wear at Tottenham after deal agreed for right-back

Tottenham's marketing department has been busy so far this summer as the club continue to do transfer business at a rapid rate.

Antonio Conte's side have already bought in five new players to strengthen their squad as they look to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City and maybe make a title challenge of their own with the serial winning Italian in charge.

It's been a window of smart business so far, spending over £75million on Yves Bissouma and Richarlison but also bringing in two free transfers in Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, and also making use of the loan market to secure Clement Lenglet's services.

With a new signing per week on average, it's been an active period for player announcements and social media videos. That doesn't look like relenting any time soon though as football.london understands Spurs are close to making their six signing, with the player already at Hotspur Way for his medical.

Spence has been highly sought after following his impressive loan season with Nottingham Forest that ended with promotion to the Premier League, and the 21-year-old looks a good fit to develop into a high class wing back under Conte.

There's still one big decision to make with Spence though. Which shirt number will he wear? Well, in his professional career he has worn four numbers: 42, 29, 24, and 2. Of those four, 24 and 42 are currently available at his new club, and he's likely to want something slightly more glamorous than 42 to make a name for himself.

The current No.2 is Matt Doherty, and despite having an injury towards the end of last season, his number isn't expected to be made available for Spence. Neither is No.29, unless there is another loan move for Pape Matar Sarr this season. He has been given that number provisionally after linking up with the team for the first time, though it could still change.

There is the possibility that other numbers that are currently taken could become available to Spence, should players leave the club. With Sergio Reguilon, No.3, Joe Rodon, No.14, Harry Winks, No.8, Giovani Lo Celso, No.18, Japhet Tanganga, No.25, and Tanguy Ndombele, No.28, all linked with moves away from the club this summer, these numbers could realistically be given to Spence for the new season.

Elsewhere, the No.12 shirt he wore for England Under-21s last season is also already occupied by Emerson Royal, which does all but rule out that as well. Here is a list of all the currently vacant numbers up to No.35: 13, 16, 22, 23, 24, 26, 31, 32, 34.

The extra thing to keep in mind is that other than Richarlison, who will be the new No.9, and Forster (No.20), Spurs haven't officially announced official kit numbers for other new signings Bissouma, Lenglet and Perisic. Perisic has been given the No.22 and Bissouma the No.38 for the pre-season tour of South Korea, with a note to supporters that they may not be representative of what they will be wearing on one month's time for the new season.

Therefore, any possible look at Spence in a white kit before the season may also not give much away.
