Shelley Duvall is making her long-awaited return to the silver screen, having famously retired from showbiz 20 years ago.
The 73-year-old star of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining has made her first acting appearance in two decades, starring in the trailer for her upcoming horror film The Forest Hills.
Shelley, who also played Olive Oyl in Popeye, hasn't appeared in a movie since 2002's Manna From Heaven, though that's now about to change.
The Forest Hills follows a man named Rico (Chiko Mendez) who "is tormented by nightmarish visions after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill woods," according to a synopsis.
In the film, Shelley plays Rico's mum, who serves as an inner voice to him throughout.
The trailer opens with a number of shots of a small town, with main character Rico filming himself using a handheld camera.
"Hey, how are you doing? It's Rico again. I'm up in the beautiful mountains of the Catskills in upstate New York," he says.
The clip then makes a dark turn as the audience see a topless Rico covered in blood and screaming, before a werewolf appears in the moonlight.
We then get our first glimpse of Shelley as she appears in front of a black screen saying: "You're a f***ing murderer Rico."
The trailer ends with a series of dramatic shots, with Rico dragging away dead bodies and his friend Billy (played by Edward Furlong) reading from a spiritual book.
Shelley said The Forest Hills was "very satisfying" to create and praised the "fantastic" two-man crew.
She added that it was the "first time I ever worked with a director who was on FaceTime," in an interview with People.
Shelley also opened up about her character and said: "Rico's mother is angry because of what her son has become and feels a quiet rage which sometimes turns explosive."
The Forest Hills director Scott Goldberg previously told Deadline that the filmmakers "are huge fans of The Shining."
He went on to say: "Shelley contributed to The Shining being an absolute masterpiece by giving her all, and performing in a way that really showcased the fear and horror of a mother in isolation."
