The sensational Wales player ratings as Wayne Hennessey produces iconic moment that will live with fans forever

Wayne Hennessey 10 - STAR MAN

Kept out everything thrown at him. A brilliant stop to deny Tsygankov early in the second half, but his save to keep out Dovbyk is already surely one of Welsh football's most iconic moments of modern times. A performance he, and three-and-a-half million others will cherish.

Ethan Ampadu 8

A couple of misplaced passes early on, but more than pulled his weight defensively as the game wore on. Grew into things nicely and once again showed maturity well beyond his years. A composed performance in the end.

Joe Rodon 9

Read the game brilliantly to snuff out the danger with several superb interventions. Got his head into danger on a couple of occasions and put his body on the line alongside his defensive colleagues when Ukraine continued to press. Are you watching, Antonio?

Ben Davies 10

Just so calm and composed on the ball. A colossus when Ukraine pressed. Won every tackle. Won every aerial duel. Perhaps won his side the game too. A superb last-ditch intervention to keep out Tsygankov was a particular highlight. The fearless leader of a defence that could have so easily have crumbled under intense Ukrainian pressure.

Connor Roberts 8

Would probably still be running now were it not for the final whistle. Even by his standards, this was an enormously energetic performance. One of many that did their job to keep the visitors at bay.

Aaron Ramsey 8

Okay, he missed a sitter in the second half, but Ramsey was at the forefront of everything good about Wales going forward. Made a couple of really good tackles in midfield to upset Ukraine's rhythm in the middle of the park, and showed terrific vision to try and kickstart the Welsh front three.

Joe Allen 8

Booked early on for a robust challenge, but was typically industrious in the middle of the park. Got his foot in and linked up play nicely. Perhaps lucky not to give away a penalty, but read things very nicely in midfield and stood up to the challenge of Zinchenko and co admirably. A game that might well aid his contract demands this summer.

Neco Williams 10

Covered every blade of grass. A constant thorn in the Ukraine defence down the flanks, and a bully defensively. A marvellous intervention to deny Yaremchuk the chance to break free in the second half was a particular highlight. He's not had many better games for Wales. A special performance from a special player.

Gareth Bale 8

Was actually quite a quiet game by his exceptionally high standards. But his classy touches and ability to pick out a pass in the middle of the park certainly made a difference. Denied a goal due to it being given as a Yarmolenko own goal, but his typically excellent freekick once again oozed class. Gareth Bale will finally be at a World Cup and we couldn't be happier. Subbed late on.

Kieffer Moore 8

His first start since December 30, when he was still at Cardiff City. Couldn't really get going in the final third in terms of goal threat, although he did tee up Ramsey for a golden chance in the second half. More than made his mark defensively and held up the ball brilliantly when needed. Not his best outing, but still a valuable cog in Rob Page's machine.

Daniel James 8

Carved out a number of promising opportunities for his team, but perhaps laboured to show the sort of fluency displayed in Poland. Then again, his harsh early yellow card, and the difficult conditions may well have had something to do with that. A spirited showing nonetheless and he was clearly earmarked as a big danger by a physical Ukraine defence. Subbed.

Subs

Brennan Johnson (on for James 71) - So unlucky to hit the post just moments after coming on. Lively cameo - 7

Harry Wilson (on for Bale 82) - A couple of decent runs. Held up the ball nicely late on too - 7

Rhys Norrington-Davies (on for N. Williams 90) - N/A
