Sunday’s Week 2 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks was a reminder of just how cruel bad injury luck can be in the NFL. The Seahawks players especially hated to see it.
Niners quarterback Trey Lance waited a full season to officially win the starting quarterback job for this season. And after being forced to battle through poor conditions in Chicago in Week 1, Lance finally had a real opportunity to show what he could do in the full-time starting role.
That wait will likely continue for another season.
During the first half against the Seahawks, Lance suffered what appeared to be a significant leg injury after being tackled on a run. The cart was brought out for the second-year QB, and Lance left the field with an air cast on his leg.

Obviously emotions are always high in these situations, but it was impossible to overlook how the Seahawks players rallied around Lance to wish him well as he left the field.

It was a classy gesture and a clear sign of how much everyone hated to see a player like Lance — who again, waited a year for this chance — get injured. Fans all felt terrible for Lance.
This was how Twitter reacted
What a sickener for #treylance horrendous looking injury. We can only hope and pray it’s not as bad as it looks. Wishing Trey a speedy recovery #49ers @49ers https://t.co/XTHWt78bda
