The Script’s lead guitarist Mark Sheehan has passed away at aged 46.
The band shared a statement on social media: "Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time."
Tributes are pouring in for the musician following the announcement earlier today.
Devastated fans are showing an outpour of grief, with one saying: "Mark, you will be missed by so many. My thoughts go out to your wife and children and to your family and friends.”
Another left a touching comment, "I'm so shocked and sad to read this. Thank you for so many good times. RIP."
The Script have sold millions of albums globally and, received two Brit nominations and three Meteor Ireland Music Awards, and two World Music Awards.
Mark leaves behind his three teenage children and his wife Reena, who he married when he was 25.
The band were due to support Pink! on her upcoming European tour, starting in Bolton on June 7.
