The Scottish hero who defied Donald Trump

Susan Munro relaxing among the tall grass and sand

THIS striking portrait shows the late Susan Munro smoking a cigarette in the dunes of Menie Links – the site of a fierce Local Hero-style battle by Scots against the Trump business empire.

Before becoming US President, Donald Trump drew the ire of a small but committed group of Aberdeenshire locals who were opposed to him building an 18-hole golf course near their homes.

Gran-of-two Susan sadly died in December 2020, and lived for around 40 years in her home in Menie.

Alicia Burns’s photograph of Susan relaxing among the tall grass and sand, is one of those included in her forthcoming book Menie: TRUMPED.

The book, for which she is raising money through a Kickstarter campaign, tells the stories of the people affected by Trump’s construction of the controversial course who saw their surroundings turned into a building site.

Tomorrow marks the last day of the fundraiser, which has so far raised more than £20,000 for the book’s publication.

Bruce said she will make no money from the publication and all cash will cover her costs in making it.
