The Salford Quays Duck Race is back - and here's how you can take part

The greatest water race in Salford is back once again for its 7th edition. The MedEquip4Kids Duck Race, in Salford Quays, returns on Good Friday (April 15).

The race, which sees hundreds of rubber ducks compete for a prestigious crown on the waterways, is back after two years. This year, families can buy a duckling for only £2.50 for the main race.

The winning ducks could receive tickets to The Lowry Theatre and a year’s supply of Irn Bruat the Helly Hansen Water Sports Centre. Festivities begin at 1pm, with the community race kicking off at 4:15pm. The business race starts at 4pm.

“We are so thankful for the fantastic support received from our Mega Duck sponsors,” Ghazala Baig, Chief Executive at MedEquip4Kids said. “We know that this is going to be the best year yet for the Quays Duck Race, we really are so glad that we can put this event on again.

“The Quays Duck Race is one of our flagship events of our calendar and raises much needed money to help children and babies across the North West.” Competitors can reserve their spot before the day online , or buy one at the event.

MedEquip4Kids, based on Deansgate in Manchester city centre, started out in 1985, and has gone on to raise more than £24 million to fund neonatal and paediatric medical equipment, the charity says. It also has bankrolled sensory and play facilities in hospitals, specialised equipment for disabled children, and mental health support.
