The Royal Family announces Platinum Jubilee emoji

The Royal Family has released a brand new emoji for the Platinum Jubilee. The new symbol is a corgi named PJ, a nod to Her Majesty's beloved pooches.

The corgi emoji has been announced to help social media users celebrate the unprecedented anniversary, which is being marked with a four-day bank holiday weekend. You can read more about this here.

To access the emoji, users need to use the hashtags #PlatinumJubilee, #HM70, #PlatinumPartyatthePalace, #PlatinumJubileePageant or #TheBigJubileeLunch.

In a Twitter post today [Thursday, May 26], The official Royal Family Twitter account wrote: "Meet PJ the corgi, our Jubilee emoji! PJ will appear whenever you use #PlatinumJubilee #HM70 #PlatinumPartyatthePalace #PlatinumJubileePageant or #TheBigJubileeLunch and we're hoping that as many of you as possible will use PJ to help celebrate the Jubilee here on Twitter."

The corgi is also available on Instagram in sticker form, a guardsman and his horse are also available as stickers. To access them just select GIF and search @theroyalfamily on the social media platform. You can also be a Queen for the day by selecting the effects tab on The Royal Family Instagram page and choosing the crown filter.

A statement read: "With exactly a week to go until The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations begin in earnest with the spectacular Trooping the Colour, we’re launching some social media tools to help you share your Jubilee celebrations in style here on Instagram.

"Meet 'PJ' our Platinum Jubilee corgi! Other stickers include a guardsman and his horse enjoying a Jubilee tea, a crown, a popping bottle of champagne and bunting. We're hoping as many of you as possible use these tools to celebrate the Jubilee with us here on Instagram."

The Platinum Jubilee bank holiday falls on Friday, June 3. Meanwhile, the late May spring bank holiday has been moved to Thursday, June 2. It means the UK will get a four-day weekend to mark the momentous occasion.

The countdown to the event is now on and the BBC and Buckingham Palace recently revealed details, including the line-up, for the Party at the Palace concert. Meanwhile, eight new towns have been awarded city status as part of Queen's Platinum Jubilee and street parties and local events have been announced.
