One of the first big dramas of the year, The Rig, has now been released. With Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen and Line of Duty’s Martin Compston leading the cast, the new six-parter is not short of star power.
Telling the story of oil workers stranded in the North Sea, the new series gives an abnormal look at life on the rigs. It has been created and written by Scottish newcomer, David Macpherson. John Strickland, who worked as a director on Line of Duty and Hustle, directed all six episodes of the series.
But what is the series all about, who’s in the cast and how can you watch? Here’s everything that you need to know.
Who’s in the cast?
As mentioned, Iain Glen and Martin Compston lead the cast of The Rig, as Magnus MacMillan and Fulmer Hamilton respectively. Emily Hampshire is the third main character in the series, playing Rose Mason, who is a representative for the oil company featured in The Rig.
Fellow Line of Duty stars Mark Bonnar, Rochenda Sandall and Welsh actor Owen Teale complete the cast.
What’s the plot of The Rig?
The synopsis for The Rig explains: "When the Kinloch Bravo crew are due to be collected and return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through. The rig is hit by massive tremors, and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world.
“As the crew endeavour to discover what’s driving this unknown force, a major accident forces them to ask questions about who they can really trust. Bonds are broken, allegiances formed, and generational fault lines are exposed.
"The crew of the Bravo will be driven to the limits of both their loyalties and their endurance, leading to a confrontation with forces beyond their imagination.”
