Reverend Guitars has offered up some of the hippest and most versatile six-strings around, from the bolt-on Charger and set-neck Contender designs, to signature models like the Billy Corgan Z-One and the Pete Anderson Eastsider.
Now, the company has unveiled another stunner, the Reverend Crosscut, which Guitar World Tech Editor Paul Riario rightly calls “a remarkable guitar that can handle any rough and tumble situation.”
The modern, single-cut bolt-on is, in Paul’s estimation, “a cross – no pun intended – between their signature Pete Anderson Eastsider Custom and the Charger 290,” drawing inspiration from the Eastsider T-style design, while coming closer in concept and modern looks to the Charger 290.
At the heart of the Crosscut is its pair of Railhammer Cleancut pickups – hybrid pickups with the punch of P-90s, but with cleaner and leaner tone and no hum. This means that you can get lots of jangly tone out of the Crosscut, but plenty of overdrive as well.
Other features include an “ergonomically contoured” solid Korina body, a maple fingerboard and roasted maple neck – “which happens to be rock-solid and completely stable,” Paul says, and a brand-new styled string-thru bridge plate to house the Railhammer Cleancut bridge pickup, “so it can ring out and respond much like a T-Style guitar.”
There’s also a 25 ½-inch scale length, 12-inch fingerboard radius, dual-action truss rod and Reverend pin-lock locking tuners. What’s more, you get a specially-designed passive bass contour control on the upper horn, “which allows you to tighten up the low end or subtlety revoice the Cleancut pickups to growl like P-90s or sing cleanly like single coils,” Paul says.
His verdict? “The Reverend Crosscut is a no-nonsense instrument that plays like a dream,” Paul says. “You can instantly feel that the setup is phenomenal, and construction is solid throughout.
“And considering Reverend’s noiseless P-90-style Cleancut pickups give you both jangle and bite with tremendous tone whether overdriven or clean, I can say the Crosscut is an outstanding instrument.”
