TV and film actor Martin Freeman is one of the UK's best-known stars.
Since he shot to fame as Tim on Ricky Gervais' The Office, Freeman has gone on to play big parts in the likes of BBC hit Sherlock and The Hobbit film franchise. He's now starring in The Responder, a crime drama about a police response officer struggling to cope with the demands of his job.
The show, which has received good reviews ahead of its 9pm debut on BBC One tonight, will be welcome news for fans of Freeman, who is back in the limelight once again.
The BBC will be hoping that despite plenty of police dramas already out there, Liverpool-based The Responder will bring something different to the table.
Who is Martin Freeman married to?
Martin Freeman was previously in a long-term relationship with Amanda Abbington, the actress who played his on-screen wife on Sherlock - although they never actually married in real life.
They were together from 2000 to 2016 and had two children, a son named Joe and daughter Grace.
Freeman has previously been less willing to share much about his home life except for appearances on the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? and Desert Island Discs.
He revealed how the breakup affected him when he appeared on Desert Island Discs with Lauren Laverne in 2019 and admitted that filming the final series of Sherlock after the split was hard.
"I wanted to be civil for us, because when you’ve loved someone for that long and they have been such an integral part of your life, what – that is supposed to not count now?"
Amanda later said to Stella magazine: "Martin and I remain best friends and love each other, and it was entirely amicable, but we realised we’d come to the end of our time together."
What is Martin Freeman's net worth?
Due to his long acting career, Freeman now has a net worth of around £14.8million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
After his split from Amanda, Freeman was reported to have purchased a home in north west London, partly paid for by being the face of Vodafone adverts for several years, as well his lucrative acting career.
What is The Responder about?
The new show follows the former Dr Watson as Chris Carson, the downbeat and tired Scouse copper coping with life as a "bizzie".
"The Responder follows Chris (Martin Freeman), a crisis-stricken, morally compromised, unconventional urgent response officer tackling a series of night shifts on the beat in Liverpool," is how the BBC described the show.
"Whilst trying to keep his head above water both personally and professionally, Chris is forced to take on a new rookie partner Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo).
"Both soon discover that survival in this high pressure, relentless, night-time world will depend on them either helping or destroying each other."
The show about the rundown cop is written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher and also stars MyAnna Buring and Ian Hart.
