The Repair Shop star Steve Fletcher shares major health update after undergoing surgery

The Repair Shop star Steve Fletcher received an outpouring of support from fans and co-stars after announcing he had undergone major surgery.

The BBC One show's resident clock and watch expert shared that he was in a "different kind of repair shop" for a knee operation.

On Wednesday, he took to Instagram to post a candid photo from his hospital bed, wearing a gown and sporting a nasal cannula.

He wrote alongside the photo: “I’m in a different kind of repair shop today… And this time it was me being repaired.

“Just had a small knee operation, and pleased to report that all went well.”

The TV star concluded his post by saying: “Ever grateful for the skill and kindness of our healthcare professionals - absolutely wonderful people.

“Thank you to all who looked after me today [love-heart emoji]”.

The TV star received an outpouring of well wishes from his The Repair Shop co-stars, including the teddy bear duo Julie Tatchell and Amanda Middleditch, as well as jewellery expert Richard Talman.

The Repair Shop upholsterer Soonaz Nooranvary commented under the post: “Hope you have a speedy recovery Steve xx.”

“Sending our love and a bear hug xx,” teddy bear and soft toy restorers Amanda and Julie wrote.

“Wishing you well Steve!” jewellery expert Richard penned, while paper conservator Angelina Bakalarou said: “Sending you all the best vibes for a speedy recovery!!”

Ceramic conservator Kirsten Ramsay added: “Wishing you a full and speedy recovery Steve xx.”

It wasn’t only his colleague who were sharing messages of support but also fans of the show. One wrote: “Firefighters knee pal… comes to us all eventually. Sending love and light from all the lads and lassies up here… get well soon!…”

“Best wishes for your swift recovery. NHS are the best,” another shared.

Elsewhere, The BBC appeared to drop a hint about the future of The Repair Shop after star Jay Blades was charged with controlling and coercive behaviour against his estranged wife, Lisa Marie Zbozen.

Blades, 54, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court earlier this month for one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship. He was bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, October 11.

The court documents show that his alleged behaviour included physical and emotional abuse.

Questions have been raised by fans of The Repair Show as to whether he will continue to appear in the show which he has fronted since its launch in 2017.

The BBC appear to have now made their stance clear, with an insider reportedly telling The Sun: “The Beeb won’t feature any new shows in which he appears until it is clear how legal proceedings conclude.”

The broadcaster also confirmed to the Standard that Blades is not currently filming the programme and they do not presently intend to schedule any programmes in which he is featured. Content that already features Blades will remain on BBC iPlayer however.

Blades resigned from the King’s Foundation after he was charged. Last year, Blades won a daytime Bafta TV award along with other members of the BBC programme for a special featuring the King, who was at the time the Prince of Wales.

He supported the King’s Foundation, formerly the Prince’s Foundation, as an ambassador, and visited its Dumfries House location in Ayrshire forBBC special The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit.
