The reason Meghan and kids won’t be attending King Charles’ coronation

The Duchess of Sussex has a good reason for not showing up to the coronation of King Charles — even though her husband will join the May 6 festivities.

On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry will attend his father’s crowning ceremony. The statement added that his wife, the former Meghan Markle, will remain in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The big event takes place on the same day that the eldest son of the royal couple celebrates his 4th birthday. People reported that Meghan will spend the weekend celebrating with the children.

The children were last in their father's native country in June 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

A source, identified as a friend, told the outlet that the bestselling “Spare” author wanted to “be at the service to support his father at this important moment in his life.”

Meghan was last seen in London when she joined Prince Harry and members of the Royal Family for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

Last month, the Duke of Sussex shocked royal watchers during a surprise U.K. visit to attend legal proceedings. Prince Harry and six more prominent Brits, including Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, sued Associated Newspapers in a case that alleged the tabloid company’s staffers used illegal tactics to obtain private information.

According to royal expert Alexander Larman, King Charles III was “too busy” to see his youngest son during the trip.
