The Rays honored Don Zimmer with a heartwarming first-pitch moment between his son and great-grandson

As a player, manager, and advisor, the late Don Zimmer was involved in MLB baseball for over 60 years. He was a six-time World Series champion on the field and even won NL Manager of the Year with the Chicago Cubs in 1989.

But Zimmer’s work with the Tampa Bay Rays as a senior advisor from 2004 to 2014 was what garnered him his most recent fame. On Sunday, before a  game against the Detroit Tigers, the Rays paid tribute to the baseball legend by inducting him into their team’s Hall of Fame.

They first had a little ceremony that featured Zimmer’s great-grandson Carter throwing a first pitch to his son Tom. In a video captured by Bally Sports, it was a beautiful way for three generations to connect on an important day:

A perfect strike and a perfect way for Zimmer’s family to honor him.
