The Queen has appeared on the cover of Vogue for the first time alongside Hollywood royalty Anya Taylor-Joy in a special issue celebrating the Platinum Jubilee.

The April issue of the magazine includes a twin cover with an image of the Queen early in her reign alongside the actress, famous for her role in cult crime drama Peaky Blinders, wearing a replica crown.

The magazine pays its own tribute to the monarch by looking back at her 70 years on the throne and in the editor’s letter by Edward Enninful.

He said: “When I received my OBE for services to diversity in fashion several years ago, I thought carefully about what the decision to accept it would mean.

“Ultimately, I saw an ancient institution that was setting about on a programme of change and if they had noticed and wanted to recognise my work as something worth spotlighting, given the fact my endeavours were all about spotlighting under-represented people too, then I felt comfortable - keen, even - to engage.”

Taylor-Joy , who is about to her seen in Viking drama The Northman, admitted she does not “necessarily love the red-carpet experience”.

She said: “I, like, blackout when it’s happening. It’s so, so overwhelming.”

But she said making the film with lots of scenes outdoors and in the sea was “joyful”, adding: “The stunt guys would say, ‘Can we get out of the water now?’ And I was like, ‘This is amazing. Nature! We’re outside! We get to make art.’”

The actress also revealed she took up raving for relaxation while in Berlin filming The Queen’s Gambit and would often go clubbing alone saying she would start in the morning and “dance until 8pm, not talk to anybody, then go home, have a bath, eat some spaghetti and wake up at 4am to go to work. I felt great.”
