The quaint Nottinghamshire village with lovely walks and ‘community that helps'

Papplewick is a ‘lovely’ village in Nottinghamshire, just outside Hucknall. The town is home to The Griffins Head Pub, Morton's Farm Tea Rooms, ‘lovely walks’ and a ‘community that helps each other.’

Villagers share how much they enjoy living in the village and have highlighted its best points. Susan Townsend, 72, from Forest Town told Nottinghamshire Live that she loves everything about the place.

She said: “It's lovely. We sometimes come to the tea room for breakfast and sometimes for lunch. It’s a really lovely village. It’s just everything about it and the lovely walks - there's loads of lovely walks.

“I just love it - it’s quaint. A traditional English village.”

Amanda Sherwin, 55, the owner of Mortons Farm Tea Rooms says the people are welcoming. She said: “We see a lot of people, some of the locals and some walkers - there’s a lot of walks.

“We have a lot of regulars and people popping in. They’re friendly, we are grateful. It’s nice - you can walk out and people say hello, a bit of contact is lovely. You can usually pop out and find someone to speak to.”

Villager Kathryn Marshall, 40, a teacher, told Nottinghamshire Live that the best thing about the village is how people look out for each other.

“It's the community - everyone helps each other,” she said. "There's lots of charity events. There’s lovely scenery and walks around here, it’s peaceful. The pub’s welcoming and has nice food, the tea rooms really nice food as well.”

Kathryn’s friend, Cheryl Tongue, 41, a student nurse, added: “It’s beautiful in the summer and spring. It’s peaceful, you can't hear any of the cars on the road.”

Resident Jill Tinker, who is 79, wasn't quite so enthusiastic about the amount of cars but said she still loves living there. She said: “It used to be quiet but not so much now there’s far too much traffic. We get on with our neighbours - we share a lot of things.

“It’s changed a lot since covid - I used to know everybody that lived in the whole village but now I don’t. People like to come here because it’s a nice pretty village.

“There’s groups, like the gardeners' groups. The village hall hosts them. There’s a very thriving cricket club, we are very lucky to have that. There are a lot of events that are held in and around the village. The tea rooms are very busy and lots of people like to go. It’s a very friendly village.”
