The purr-fect criminal - Lanarkshire cat burglar can't stop stealing socks

A cat burglar is on the loose in Lanarkshire but locals shouldn't worry about their valuables just yet - as the light-footed feline is only taking socks.

Owner Tracy Chambers have been given paws for thought because her pet cat Charlie won't stop bringing her random socks he has found in Rutherglen.

Tracy is now being left with a growing collection, of all styles, colours and sizes, after Charlie started collecting them at the end of June.

Now Tracy's regular social media posts about her pet's antics have proved popular among locals - none of whom have so far claimed their footwear back.

Tracy told Lanarkshire Live : "It's much more preferable to him bringing in mice at least.

"It started at the end of June, when he brought some white football socks back.

"We threw them out, but now he won't stop bringing them. It's a variety that he brings in now, we've got pink ones purple ones and ones with love hearts on them - I've got enough that there's a pile of them just sitting in the garden now.

"Yesterday I went out the back garden and we had the love heart ones there, then at the front door he'd dropped another one, and today it was a grey one with stars on them.

"We've had cats before but they've never done anything like this, and we've had Charlie since last year - he never did this at first.

"He also came in with a glove one day, but that seems to be a one off. I hope he doesn't get any more ideas."

However Charlie's apparent belief that paw-ssession is nine tenths of the law has clearly won over some admirers.

After Tracy posted on a local Facebook community group about her cat's increasingly regular deliveries she's had regular messages and comments asking for updates.

She laughed: "It's becoming quite popular and it seems to have given people a laugh just now, which I think a lot of us could do with.

"No-one has said 'oh, those are mine though, so I've still got them - I've had some people joking they might leave some out for him to pick up."
