The public Irish outdoor swimming pool for just €3 and list of others like it around country

Met Eireann has forecast a scorcher of a week ahead with temperatures expected to reach 29C in some areas.

This makes it the perfect weather for a dip in cold water and there are a number of outdoor swimming pools dotted around the country that you may not have heard of.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday look set to see the highest temperatures and could be the best days for a dip if you're looking for an escape from the sweltering heat.

We’ve compiled a list of Ireland’s outdoor pools here where you can cool off during the upcoming heatwave.

Ballina Riverside Pool, Co Tipperary

This heated 25-metre outdoor public pool is located on the Tipperary / Clare border.

It is run by Tipperary County Council and is open to the public in June, July and August with lifeguards on duty.

It costs just €3 for children under 16 and €5 for adults. For more information on their opening hours visit their Facebook page here.

The Baths at Clontarf, north Dublin

Clontarf’s outdoor pool has been opened to the public on a trial basis for the month of August, according to their Facebook page .

The seawater pool, which juts out onto the promenade in Clontarf, is around 40 metres wide and offers swimmers a fabulous view of the sea.

The pool is offering people two daily sessions from Monday to Friday at a cost of €10 per person. The fee is the same for both adults and children.

Ballyhaunis Swimming Pool, Co Mayo

This outdoor public pool in Ballyhaunis in Mayo reopened this month after three years of being closed.

It is now open for the month of August with swimming hours operating from Monday to Saturday, from 2.30pm to 5pm.

It costs €4 for children and €5 for adults to swim with a charge of €1 for spectators. For more information check out their Facebook page here .

Ballinakill Outdoor Swimming Pool, County Laois

This outdoor swimming pool in Laois is located in the small village of Ballinakill just outside Abbeyleix.

It is open seasonally from June to September and has just undergone a extensive renovation including the installation of an air-to-water heating system.

The main pool is 29m and includes a 6.5m toddler pool with adult swims from €4. For more information, visit their website here .

Castlerea Outdoor Swimming Pool in Roscommon (Instagram/@visitroscommon)

Linn Snámha Chúil Aodha, Co Cork

This outdoor pool is located in the Gaeltacht area of Coolea, near Macroom in Cork.

It is a heated, chlorinated pool that opens during the summer months and also offers swimming lessons as well as lifeguard training.

Pool entry costs €4 for children, €7 for adults and €20 for a weekly adult ticket. For more information, visit their Facebook page here.

Bagenalstown Outdoor Heated Swimming Pool, Co Carlow

This outdoor pool in Bagenalstown in Co Carlow opens annually from early June until late August.

It includes a heated, outdoor 25-metre pool and a paddling pool for the small kids.

The pool is open daily from 11am-9pm and entry costs €5.

Castlerea Outdoor Swimming Pool, Co Roscommon

This heated, 33-metre outdoor pool in Castlerea in Roscommon would be a glorious spot for a dip during a heatwave and even has a water slide for children.

It is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday every summer with sessions between 11am to 7.30pm daily, and opens from 2pm on a Sunday,

The pool is supervised by lifeguards and facilities include individual changing cubicles and showers.

It will stay open this year until Sunday, August 28 and entry costs €4 for children, €4.50 for students and €5 for adults. For more information visit their Facebook page here.

Carraig Na Bhfear Outdoor Swimming Pool, Co Cork

Carraig Na Bhfear Outdoor Swimming Pool is an outdoor heated swimming pool located 16km outside Cork city and was originally built in 1964.

The pool opens every summer during July and August, after schools close, and has recently undergone a makeover adding new picnic tables and upgraded dressing rooms.
