Gregg Wallace’s “defence” (Outrage as Gregg Wallace calls accusers ‘middle-class women of a certain age’, 1 December) puts him second only to Prince Andrew for lack of awareness leading to a PR disaster. It’s always men of a certain age, isn’t it?

• How wonderful that France has managed to rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral after the catastrophic 2019 fire (Notre Dame reopening offers ‘shock of hope’, says Emmanuel Macron, 29 November). Could they make the Glasgow School of Art, which has been left to rot after two conflagrations, their next project?

• I beg to differ with Don Williams (Letters, 25 November) on the question of the language your country diarists use. Nature is unremittingly astonishing and your correspondents in the field seek to capture in mere words some of its marvels. What they see and report is frequently magical, and flat prose would be disappointingly inadequate. “Flowery” is fine by me.

• Judi Dench claims that everyone should have a parrot or a myna bird (‘You’re a slut!’: Judi Dench reveals parrot’s pet name for her, 1 December). They most definitely should not. Both species are highly sociable birds and to keep a solitary one, or any bird for that matter, in a cage is cruel.
