It's a beautiful Scottish tourist town that will be familiar to many, but for those looking for an Autumn escape, it could be just the answer. Oban, the idyllic seaside town, has just been named second in a list of the UK’s 100 most picturesque spots for an Autumn staycation.
According to End of Tenancy Cleaning , who set out to find the most beautiful autumn getaway locations in the UK according to Instagram, the west coast tourist destination is a surefire way to enjoy a staycation over the next month or two.
Posting about Oban, the firm wrote: "In second place is Oban, this beautiful West Scottish seaside town is ideal for those hoping to spot some of the UK's most elusive wildlife. You might be lucky enough to see basking sharks, dolphins, or even whales on one of the town’s ocean safari boat tours.
"Or if you’re lacking sea legs and don’t mind heights, an aerial tour of the town and surrounding landscape provides not only spectacular views but also trips to the nearby islands of Tiree or Coll."

Oban
Often described as the gateway to the Hebridean Isles, Oban (derived from the Gaelic for 'little bay') is a hugely popular holiday town where tourists in their thousands descend every summer on their travels to the western islands of Scotland.
Situated within a stunning bay, the town is distinctive thanks to the whisky distillery that sits at its heart – incredibly the town was built up around it – and the 'crown' of McCaig's Tower which sits majestically on the hill above the town.
It's here you will find the ferries that take you to beautiful islands such as Kerrera, Lismore, Mull, Iona and Coll, with numerous boat trips offering the chance to see incredible wildlife such as dolphins, seals porpoises and sea eagles, as well as the striking natural landmark that is Fingal's Cave on the Isle of Staffa.
McCaig's Tower - or Folly as it's better known – is a prominent landmark which sits on the hill overlooking the town, a short walk up to it offers unrivalled views of the town, which slopes away below it, the port and of course, the islands beyond.
Food and Drink
The town is also known as the Seafood capital of Scotland and rightly so, as it's home to some of the best eateries in the country when it comes to the fruit de la mer.
Fresh off the boat, you'll be able to enjoy the likes of oysters, mussels, langoustines, prawns, scallops, crab and herring on the very waterfront itself from places such as the famous Oban seafood shack and the multi-award winning Ee-usk.
Not only that, but Oban is also home to a plethora of great pubs and of course the famous Oban Whisky Distillery, where you can learn how this fascinating spirit is made and even get to try some too.
